My Ox Is Broken

Ox Notes: January 5, 2010

Let's start the new year with some Dancing with the Stars 10 rumors. Pure DwtS has a roundup of all of the celebrities associated with the upcoming season, however tenuously. I'm most excited by the prospect of Jonathan Frakes -- best known as Commander Will Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation -- joining the cast.

Donald Trump bashed the quality of past DwtS casts while promoting the cast of the new season of Celebrity Apprentice, which includes two folks who had shows on VH1 and Rod Blagojevich.

CBS is debuting the first few minutes of Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains during Wednesday night's broadcast of the People's Choice Awards.

I'm going to have to watch the Screen Actors Guild Awards on January 23 to see Sandra Bullock present a Life Achievement Award to Betty White.

Zap2It has a photo gallery of January premiere and return dates. The Watcher's winter TV preview is in a more readable list format.

As a promo for the final season of Lost, the cast posed for a cool photo that recreates da Vinci's "Last Supper." I'm a fan of this, as proven by the poster of the Battlestar Galactica version of "The Last Supper" hanging on the wall behind my desk.

Chef Ina Garten turned down Jennifer Garner's request to appear on Barefoot Contessa because the actress isn't a "real friend." Don't worry, Jen. I'm sure Giada would let you appear on Everyday Italian.

Some celebrities make as much at $10,000 per Tweet for mentioning products in their Twitter feeds. Wait, you can make money on Twitter?! Good thing I just started posting at @kathyfgibson. Now all I have to do is become a celebrity.

Out of all the people in that roundup you liked Jonathan Frakes best? Wow...just Wow!

The Donald Trump comment is hilarious. He's so full of himself. I mean seriously.

Here's an even easier to read list of the premier dates: http://www.puretvnet.com/2010/01/04/winter-2010-season-premiere-dates/

Twitter is a great way to make money. Marketing your website and on a per tweet basis. I don't make anywhere near $10k, but it's already date money. Maybe one day it will move past date money;-)

John -- I have a Will Riker magnet on my fridge. Does that help explain my excitement about Frakes?

Well, heck, I don't even recognize most of those names. They truly must be scraping the bottom of the D celebrity lists. Why don't they go with Tara Reid (at least she had some potential at one time). Or maybe Ballon-boy dad?
I'd love to see a Data - Riker dance-off! And on the Trekkies, maybe Scott Bakula could beat all of them. I loved the original series the best but everyone left from that cast is either too old or still too famous to get a nod from the casting agency . . . but in their prime, it would have been fun.

Donald Trump wants to bash DWTS while promoting celeb Apprentice? Pot? Kettle? Really?

On that list of possible contestants, they all look like the same names that have been going around for months. I would bet a vital organ that Suge Knight is nowhere near that cast when the season comes back.

And Kathy, I thought you might like this piece of art that my good friend Sam Carter painted. He does a lot of pop culture spoofs, and this one, in the spirit of "The Birth of Venus," is aptly titled "The Birth of Zbornak."

That painting is AWESOME, Amy! Bea Arthur depicted as Venus is genius, right down to the subtle varicose veins on her thigh.

I see that Sam did his own version of The Last Supper, only with fast food icons like Ronald McDonald and Jack from Jack in the Box. Of course he titled it "The Fast Supper."

Shields up. Go to red alert!

Kathy,
That explains a lot.

Amy,
If you look at the link to the list, it says that it's just a list of past rumors that might finally come true this next season. Often it takes a couple seasons for the star to finally be able to be on the show (see Donny Osmond). So, they're all repeats actually.

The real question here, Kathy, is this: Is Jonathan Frakes enough to bring you back?

The Jennifer Garner thing is far scarier once you see the quote in the linked article... "I tried to get on Ina's show... but eventually she just said, 'I'm sorry, I only use my real friends on the show.' I felt like, 'What are you saying? That we're not friends? I know everything about you!"... When did 'I know everything about you' change from being a stalker alert into a sign of real friendship? I apparently missed that one.

Jen -- While I appreciate Jennifer Garner's attempt at a joke, she knows as much about Ina from watching her TV show as I know about Jennifer Garner from watching Alias: nothing.

And I'd be willing to watch DwtS for the duration of Jonathan Frakes' run, which I expect would be brief.
