My Ox Is Broken

Ox Notes: November 5, 2009

Pure DwtS has a roundup of media coverage of this week's Dancing with the Stars 9 double elimination. I can't believe there are only three weeks left.

Iron Chef America's connection with DwtS won't end with Chairman Mark Dacascos' departure from the ballroom. A January episode of the cooking competition features an appearance by First Lady Michelle Obama and will be judged by DwtS vets Jane Seymour and Natalie Coughlin.

DwtS pro Cheryl Burke is reportedly headed to Broadway, where she will appear as Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago.

ABC will keep on dancing after DwtS ends, filling its timeslot with the comedic celebrity dance show Let's Dance. The new series, hosted by Kathy Griffin, debuts on Monday, November 23 after DwtS 9's final Performance Show.

Keeping with the ABC theme, I liked the network's reboot of V on Tuesday night (though I can't compare it to the original -- too scary for me when I was a kid). It won the night in demos. The Watcher gave her take on the first episode and her hopes for the series.

Speaking of scary things, I fear getting sucked in to Broke and Famous on VH1 tonight at 10 ET. The show follows Willie Aames for seven days as he tries to get his life back in order.

Comedian Artie Lange turned down $200,000 to appear on Celebrity Rehab, in part because he's not sure that it works. Also, he didn't want his mom to see the results if he failed.

Next time you're in New York City with $45 to spend, take the Top Chef walking tour.

Reality Blurred has a roundup of interviews with Tiffany & Maria, the duo booted from The Amazing Race last week. Had it been a non-elimination week, they would've been able to take a 24-hour penalty for not completing either Detour task. But it wasn't, and they were sent home.

Time for me to get a jump on setting my DVR: James Franco's run on General Hospital starts November 20.

Am I the only one who thinks that paying a celebrity $200,000 to do Fit Club is wholly irresponsible on so many levels? First, that's a lot of money to point out that someone paid to be good looking lost hold of themselves. Second, they get additional promotional items from the show's sponsors, including trips. This really feels like a reward for being overweight! Finally, $200,000 to work out and be on camera a max 3 days a week for tapings is outrageous in this economy! Give me $200,000, I'll let you tape me all year, good and bad! I can do much better with that money, especially since I am graduating college next year and walking from my ceremony to a bankruptcy filing since I cannot afford to repay my student loans! /rant

I do feel somewhat bad for Tiffany and Maria for trying and not being able to do either detour, but I'm not sorry they got eliminated. They didn't complete a challenge in the first episode and got saved by a non-elimination leg, so getting saved twice doesn't seem fair to me. Both of those detours could have been done with finesse and not brute strength, I'm 5' 1" and 100 pounds and I can hit those bell ringers with a few tries, it's all in your swing. Picking it up and dropping the mallet less than a foot over the pin wasn't going to come close, but that's what Maria kept doing.

To Amy: If your loans are through Sallie Mae, you can apply for a 3 year economic hardship deferment of your loans if you don't get a job or if you make less than a certain dollar amount per year. Other lenders have similar programs... Check into that before you panic!

Thank you Jen! I will look into that. I may have to.
