My Ox Is Broken

A Note Regarding DwtS 9

Dear MOIBsters,

I have a confession to make. For the past few seasons my interest in Dancing with the Stars has been waning. Last season, I think I only made it through thanks to those of you who have made our chatroom so entertaining.

So, I've decided I won't be recapping the show this season. I probably won't even be watching much of it. I will still be posting plenty of DwtS news in Ox Notes (which will return next week). I just won't be giving the actual episodes much attention.

Happily, for those of you who still love the show, "Pure Dancing with the Stars" (http://www.puredwts.com/) has been doing a great job of covering this preseason. I'm sure they'll do an equally fine job when the season begins.

Thanks so much to all of you for reading and participating through the years. Though I don't find the show so exciting anymore, I can't tell you just how much I've enjoyed writing about it and interacting with many of you in our chats and via email.

If you'd still like to chat during the show, I'll keep the chatroom open (http://www.myoxisbroken.com/oxchat.aspx) this season. I just won't be moderating it, so you'll have to police yourselves.

Thanks again!

oh Kathy!!!!!
I'm so sad to hear the news BUT I am with ya, sister!
My interest is on a decline as well. I think I'd rather wash dishes and fold laundry then watch a 3-nights in a row of DwtS going over what they already went over and we all saw already.

As they say, " ya gotta do what ya gotta do!" Enjoy the extra time with Mr. MOIB!

Kathy, I've never taken part in the chatroom, but I've posted comments a number of times and have been devoted to this site. Sad news for me to hear, but I understand. My interest has waned somewhat, but not as much as yours. I make a point of watching on tape now, and usually fast-forward through the dreary stuff. (a lot of the judges' comments, Samantha's backstage "interviews", anything Cloris Leachman, etc.) Does wonders to help me stay positive about the show!

Also, I've become fervent about So You Think You Can Dance. I gather that you don't love that show -- not even considering that recent seasons have featured Bollywood dancing?

In any case, I loved this site -- it was a major part of my DwtS enjoyment through all these past seasons. I'm going to miss it. Thanks so much for everything you did in running the site.

Best wishes to you,
Sam

Thanks for understanding, OxPal and Sam, and thanks for your participation at MOIB over the years.

Regarding SYTYCD: after spending three (or more) hours every week in fall and spring watching DwtS, I was too burnt out to spend three hours every week in the summer watching SYTYCD. I think I'm more likely to watch this season now that I won't be watching DwtS. I'll probably start watching in October after the Top 20 are announced. As you said, Sam, I do love a good Bollywood routine!

Kathy, I'm completely with you when it comes to dancing exhaustion. There's only so many times a week you can watch Cheryl Burke look smugly at the camera before enough is enough.

Maybe you might have a little more time to do some Amazing Race recaps again. That's how I fell in love with your website, and I've really missed your recaps the past few seasons. Bring back that Broken Ox!

Kathy, I completely understand your decision not to recap this season. I went through my DVR yesterday and took DWTS off of the recording schedule because I too have lost interest. I have always enjoyed SYTYCD because of the diversity and the routines that continue to challenge the dancers and be moving for the audience.

If you feel the itch to recap, maybe a Survivor recap? If Russell is as big a jerk this season as he was in the first episode, I may need an ally to keep me from crying foul on the show altogether. :)

I 100% understand your frustration, as it's now been 2 full seasons (before this one) that on Monday night I find myself looking forward to a few great one-liners in the chat and not the actual show. If the chat keeps going you'll be missed there, but I think the changes have been so numerous that DWTS I knew and loved is officially dead; so what is remaining is a parody of it's former self.

Hopefully Sunday's TAR premiere will be more to your liking.

And if you end up missing the chat, you could always try opening that up for SYTYCD.

Oh Kathy! I'm so disappointed, but I understand. I'm watching the premiere tonight but I don't know if I'll be able to stick it out for all three of the "premiere" shows this week, much less the rest of the season. Thanks for being my DWTS source all these years. It's been fun!

Hey it's been a great ride and I can completely understand the fade on this show. I'm still into it but I do have low expectations. I have loved the chats and the hilarious quips, esp from you and hubby. Hilarious. So I'll show up tonite to see if anyone is around. My best to you and my thanks!

Wow. Thanks for the link to our site. Sounds like we have big shoes to try and fill.

Looks like we have a lot of common interests though. I adore TAR, but haven't found it as fun to blog about. I also have a site similar to my DWTS site for SYTYCD at http://www.puresytycd.com

Thanks again for the link and if you ever want to contribute something on my site you'll be more than welcomed.

Kathy and Greg,
I will truly miss the recaps and snark that the show engendered here. Perhaps you two will pop in from time to time. Ever since broadcasts went all digital, I can't get shows (and I have an HD TV) over the air and I can't spring for cable or sat. TV, so MOIB was a place I always visited to get the latest recaps whether it was TAR, Survivor, or DWTS. I thank y'all for such a great site and for the on-line chat. I'll miss the updates, but I'll try and pop into the chat room from time to time even though I'm two hours behind. Thanks for the new links too!

Thanks for all the work you've done in the past, and you're right - this show suddenly changed about two years ago and has never been the same. It's not about ballroom dancing anymore. It's not about any sense of ballroom professionalism. For me there is always the last bastion - the annual national championships out of Columbus, Ohio (of all places!) on PBS. Now THAT'S dancing!

Bummer. I stumbled upon your blog about 2 seasons ago (this would be the third) and am going to miss it. Your blog name makes it easy to remember where to go when the season starts up.

I didn't so much come for the recap as I enjoyed reading your and other's comments, without being overwhelmed by hundreds of "Maks is so hot" comments. (OK, he is...)

Thanks for giving me somewhere to lurk for a couple seasons.
