My Ox Is Broken

Ox Notes: September 8, 2009

The Fall 2009 season informally kicks off tonight with the premieres of 90210 and Melrose Place on The CW. TV Guide wrote about the cast of Melrose 2.0, which The Watcher describes as "empty calories."

Another new fall show debuting this week is Season 6 of So You Think You Can Dance. FOX is going ahead with the premiere on Wednesday, while the other networks broadcast President Obama's address to Congress on health insurance reform.

The SYTYCD 6 Top 20 dancers won't be revealed until October 21.

Due to the President's speech, ABC is moving Wipeout back to 9 ET, bumping Crash Course for the night.

Brian Lowry writes that Jay Leno's new primetime show has inadvertently made the comic an enemy of TV screenwriters.

In Dancing with the Stars news, Maksim Chmerkovskiy is having a great time with celebrity partner Debi Mazar, and Louie Vito is blogging about training with Chelsie Hightower for People.

Funny how since I am no longer in school, my fall excitement comes from the new TV shows. I will give the new Melrose Place a shot, even though it will likely make my follicles hurt by the third episode. There are several interesting shows this fall to replace DWTS for me. Nothing on Monday, mind you, but Parenthood, Community, and Vampire Diaries all look worthwhile for me.

Karina Smirnoff's rep has confirmed that she and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are no longer engaged to be married. Maksim has tweeted the news rather poetically. "What was meant to be a 'life long book', turned into a 'chapter' ...... and now that 'chapter' is finished..... Se (sic) la vie..." Maksim seems equally as decisive in this view as he was in his ardent proposal on New Years Eve. No one can fault Maksim for not giving this relationship his all. The storybook romance appears to have ended.

Okay, who is Max referring to with this comment from the TV Guide interview?

TVGuide.com: So are you saying you didn't get along with some of your partners?
Chmerkovskiy: Well, clearly, I didn't get along with at least one, but we won't go into that! [Laughs]

I wondered about that, too, MN. I'm not sure if he was referring to Denise Richards or Laila Ali. He and Laila seemed to get along okay at the time, but she's been trying to distance herself from DwtS ever since. My money's on her.

Or maybe Willa Ford, and he was being sarcastic.

Oh, I hope it wasn't Laila. They seemed to get along well, and I'd be disappointed to know they battled and meant it. Now, Denise...that didn't seem to be a great match on more than one front. But the "clearly" makes it seems as though we should all know exactly who he meant without guessing. Since I can't, I'll choose to believe it was Denise. ;)

I'm annoyed that as of next week I will always have to choose between the DWTS results show and SYTYCD. Why do they have to try to beat each other for ratings. If we like both we should be able to watch both!
