I still can't tell what SciFi (excuse me, SyFy) was thinking... I know some people called it "Skiffy" before, but now I can't help but want to say "Siffy". It's an overwhelming urge, whereas before it was just a nickname only used by some. I think it's just going to accelerate the downhill slide.

The film getting thrown over on Deadliest Catch is pretty funny, i didn't know that. As a hobbyist photographer, the idea of throwing film in the ocean, protected or not, I'd be a nervous wreck until I knew it was picked up.

The producer who wrote the Deadliest Catch blog said the same thing about chucking the film overboard, Jen:
http://blogs.discovery.com/deadliest-catch-greenhorn/2009/05/hello-deadliest-fans-let-me-start-by-thanking-you-guys-for-the-bagillion-thats-right-bagillion-it-means-a-lot-emails-i-g.html

As for the-station-formerly-known-as-SciFi, I understand that it's hard to market things when "Sci-Fi" also applies to a whole fiction genre. But SyFy just sounds silly. It really does look like it should be pronounced "siffy."

I wonder how long it will be before people forget that it used to be called "SciFi" and everyone says Siffy? It just doesn't translate when you're looking at the channel guide on the TV...

Their argument was that most people don't realize that "SciFi" generally did include things like the paranormal, even when books are classified. So they felt they had to change their name because the general population doesn't understand what SciFi includes? Way to dumb down your network!

Ah, yes. The vexing conundrum of how to classify a book that features ghosts on a spaceship. C'mon, Siffy. Most people, not to mention book stores and video stores, already group the genres of Sci-Fi and Fantasy together. I doubt anyone's tuned into the SyFy channel and been confused: "What are these monsters doing here? I expected time travel and aliens."

Luche Libre sure has some well choreographed moves. If those guys don't hit their marks perfectly, somebody's gonna get hurt big time -- not just the usual hurts from doing the moves right. They've gotten a lot more muscle now too. The old-time boys wouldn't recognize it at all, just like the pro wrestling guys now are so different from the pro wrestlers back in the 50s, 60s, and 70s (the father of one of my best friends growing up was a pro wrestler (a "bad" guy) so we used to watch it to see her dad.)
